Frequently asked questions about our courses

How do I know what level I am?

Try our lovely, friendly level test here. Try to answer honestly about what you can actually say in the language, rather than what you know in theory.

What are your classes like?

We pride ourselves on offering a friendly, relaxed, sociable atmosphere.  You will never be put on the spot or made to speak in front of everyone else.  Our courses are designed to maximise opportunities to actually speak the language and have real-life conversations.  We do look at some grammar every week (because grammar is the building blocks of a language, and without it you’ll only ever be able to repeat phrases parrot fashion), but we keep it to a minimum and avoid lots of writing and repetitive exercises, and there are no tests or compulsory homework.  You can see a curriculum overview for Spanish here, French here, and Italian here.

How do I book?

On the listing for each course, you will find a button that says “Enquire” or “Book now”.  You can reserve a place by clicking on the link, or you can simply send an enquiry to register your interest.  You can pay for a place on the whole course, or you can purchase just one week as a trial class if you’re not sure.  The advantage of paying for the whole course is that you will receive your materials and access to our supplementary digital materials from week 1, but it’s entirely up to you. Payment is via the GoCardless platform, so once you are set up, re-enrolment (should you wish to continue) is super simple. You’ll make an initial payment upon booking and simultaneously authorise future payments so that, should you wish to continue, you don’t have to do anything.  The only thing you have to do is let us know when you won’t come back (which hopefully won’t be for many years to come, as you will absolutely adore learning a language with us!

What if I don’t like it or it’s too easy or hard?

You’re welcome to try as many classes as you like in the first week at no extra cost, regardless of whether you have paid for the whole course or just one week.

If I only pay for a trial class, what happens if I want to continue?

If you pay for a trial session, your place on the full course is reserved.  We’ll contact you after that session, and if you wish to continue, we’ll send you a link to pay the balance (weeks 2 – 10 plus materials)

What’s included in the fee?

We have our very own bespoke curriculum that has been written for adult learners.  The course fee includes a physical workbook, a set of vocabulary revision cards, and access to our exclusive Virtual Learning Environment – where you will find interactive digital content designed to complement and reinforce what you learn in class.

What happens if I can’t attend?

We cannot refund weeks that you miss, but don’t worry, our method means that it is perfectly possible to catch up.  You will have your workbook with all the sessions’ material right from the start, and the VLE has pronunciation videos, practice activities, and even digital copies of the class notes, which means you don’t have to fall behind.  Most of our tutors even offer the possibility of joining a class via Zoom (by prior arrangement).

Where are the classes held?

All of our classes are held at Mycenae House, 90 Mycenae Rd, London SE3 7SE.  There is free parking on the road outside.
